Waste to Worth technologies hold significant importance for any nation, offering solutions to the country's growing waste management challenges. While management of waste is a major challenge, it is also one of the sustainable energy generation resources and has the potential to improve the economy of nations. With this in view, CII has a National Committee on Waste to Worth comprising of leaders from industry, academia, research and startups helping enterprises control and minimize the environmental impact of their output. A special focus is placed on waste management and handling, as a part of the efforts to promote circularity. These initiatives are clubbed driven through CII’s transformational ‘Waste to Worth Movement’.
Under this movement, CII led its maiden mission on Waste to Worth Technologies from 5th – 9th August 2024. The mission was led by Mr Prashant Singh, CEO, Blue Planet Environmental Solutions and Vice - Chairman, CII National Committee on Waste to Worth Technologies.
The objective of the Mission was to enhance the competitiveness for Indian and Japanese Industries with enhanced bilateral collaboration for WTW technologies and also to collaborate, engage in joint research, be MoU’s partners, also involve in trade, tech transfer, and investment.
The mission comprised of 16 members representatives from industry, academic institutions, start-ups, and research labs, mission provides a platform to the mission members to network with the top representatives of Japanese industry, corporate houses, representatives of Technology & Incineration Centres, Professors and Researchers from Academic Institutions and Universities.
Mission Delegates Initiated the journey by visiting to JETRO (Jetro is a governmental organization that works to promote trade and investment between Japan and the rest of the world with a focus on supporting innovation) and sharing the opportunities to Invest in Japan & promoting FDI in Japan. Also, promoting international partnerships through j-Bridge and assisting start-ups with overseas business through J-Start-up was the focus area of discussion. Also, CII Delegation learnt various technologies method by visiting plant of JFE, Meguro plant -their incineration center. Also, there was a visit to Super Eco-town,(Alfo Co.Ltd) which is famous for producing animal feed from food waste received from the entire Tokyo, Japan Waste Research Foundation, Suginami Incineration plant, Kawasaki Eco Town and JIT-Yamanashi. These facilities gave the broader envisage for learnings in implementing Japanese technologies for waste-to-energy conversion and the advanced recycling processes which can significantly enhance waste management efficiency in India and also would guide in establishing a comprehensive e-waste collection and recycling systems, leveraging Japan's expertise in handling electronic waste safely and efficiently.
The Mission also had an Industry Interactive session at the Embassy of India in Tokyo, to explore the several accessible Innovative solutions and collaboration opportunities for Sustainable Waste Management between India & Japan.
